The Energy of Control Versus Discipline
Volume 2, Issue 8

My client – we’ll call him Kim -- is a real achiever. In the scheme of things, not many people are as successful as he has become, in his chosen profession. He has prided himself on over-delivering, never being late, always being in command of his work.

A life-long runner, Kim had tracked the fact that he had not missed a run – not in inclement weather, nor in illness, nor on the day his first child was born – in more than seven years.

So it was odd when he suddenly found himself acting out in odd ways. Showing up late to meetings. Sending in work product without proof reading it. Snapping at people around him.

And missing his runs.

Long story short, we discover that this burst of “I don’t wanna do it like that anymore” – this sort of inner temper tantrum – coincided with a company-wide emphasis on discipline. All around him was the message, “Discipline is our secret weapon.”

Now, you’d think Kim was all about discipline. He performed to the letter of every expectation held for him, and it takes discipline to do that.

But for Kim, performance tied to the idea of control was a useful construct. Performance tied to discipline was not.

To Kim, the idea of discipline was equal, on a subconscious level, to being punished. He was putting himself through punishing circumstances every day of his life, to exceed the expectations he thought people had of him.

His SubConscious Mind (SCMind) just flat out resisted the idea of being disciplined. In his mind, it was a weapon – one that was being used ON him.

Harness the Energy Around You!

What I’ve discovered since is that Kim isn’t alone. A lot of people in Western culture get raised with a sense that discipline is what happens to you when you get in trouble.

Remember that SCMind takes things literally. So there are many of us who will have an operating program that resists the very idea of discipline – needing it, being it, having it.

When we cleared it for Kim, he was able to return to his previous level of productivity.

Are you someone who is confusing discipline with productivity and control? If so, here is something you can do right now.

Speak directly to your SCMind. Tell it: I can have discipline without being in trouble. Erase previous associations between discipline and punishment, discipline and shame, discipline and power, discipline and pain.

If you have BSFF, you can use your word to shift this confusion at an even deeper level. You can find out more about BSFF at my website, at www.BeSetFreeFast.com, or at www.UseTheCue.com.

As an experiment, you might try looking for other concepts your SCMind and your conscious mind might have confused. Remember that SCMind is literal.

Try these combinations: worked to death; killing time; it beats me; awfully good/bad/fun; lucky break; fired; thrilled to death; I’m done for.

I’d love to hear what else you come up with!

Clear the confusion, and you too may find some pockets of inner resistance just clear right up!
