Totally agree… although I struggle with the best way to get people to go along the journey with you.

That’s where an example about the past, or a great statistical ’sound-bite’ comes in handy.

1) To show that you know your stuff
2) To give people fair warning of where you’re about to take them
3) To establish a common vocabulary, (e.g., what the heck do you mean by ‘innovation’ in the context of this conversation?) so others can participate without speaking in squishiness

Or, as I often do, just start speaking about squishy things in squishy terms and apologize that all these ideas are still ‘in motion’ so ‘I’d love for you to help me get somewhere with them.’ Some of the time this approach works very well…
